Where Expense Tracking Actually Makes Sense
We started novariqelos in late 2019 because we kept seeing the same problem. People tried budgeting apps that felt like homework. Spreadsheets that nobody updated after February. Systems built by accountants for accountants.
So we built something different — a tool that fits how real people actually spend money, not how finance textbooks say they should.
How We Got Here
The Beginning
Three of us sat in a coffee shop comparing budgeting apps. None of them worked the way we actually lived. We spent that autumn building the first version of novariqelos on weekends.
Finding Our People
About 4,000 people signed up that year. Most told us they'd tried other expense trackers and given up. We learned what actually mattered — quick entry, clear categories, no judgment about spending habits.
Growing Up
Added receipt scanning after users kept requesting it. Built sharing features for couples who were tired of "did you pay the gas bill?" texts. Started hiring properly.
Where We're Going
Better Tools
Released predictive insights that actually helped people see patterns. Not "you spent too much on coffee" nonsense, but genuinely useful observations about irregular expenses and seasonal spending.
Right Now
Working on multi-currency support and improving our UK-specific features. Building tools for freelancers who need to separate business and personal spending without the headache of proper accounting software.
Next Steps
Planning to launch household budgeting features and better integration with UK banking systems. Maybe some educational content about financial planning that doesn't sound like it was written by robots.
What We Actually Do

Simple Tracking
Add expenses in seconds. No forms, no mandatory fields, no dropdown menus with 47 categories.

Useful Insights
See where your money goes without judgment or lectures about your lunch spending.

Share Smart
Split expenses with partners or housemates. Everyone sees what they need to, nothing they don't.

Quick Capture
Snap receipts and we'll extract the important bits. Works offline when you're in shops with terrible signal.

Built by People Who Use It
I'm Leofric Bannerman, one of the people who started this thing. Still use novariqelos every day to track my own spending — if it's annoying me, we fix it.
Our small team works from London, though a few folks are scattered around the UK. We're designers, developers, and one person who's really good at customer support. Nobody here came from big finance companies, which might be why our app doesn't feel like it was designed by bankers.
We don't have investors breathing down our necks about growth targets. novariqelos makes enough to pay everyone properly and keep improving the product. That's the plan, and it seems to be working.
